In-Mold Fusion Polycarbonate Shell
When the EPS foam is still in the mold (or "die," which is where the name comes from), it is injected into the thin microshell outer shell instead of being molded separately and then glued on. This process was first introduced by Bell and is now standard for all high-demand helmets.

Ergo Fit™ System
Completely revised, the ErgoDial is now called Ergo Fit™. In addition to significantly improved adjustment mechanism (no more pressing and turning), it is now also significantly thinner and less obtrusive.

MIPS
The MIPS® safety system was developed to provide additional protection for helmets in numerous accidents. In certain impact situations, the MIPS system can reduce the dangerous forces that might be transmitted to the helmet wearer's head.

1. Traditional helmets are designed and tested for linear impacts. However, in most cases, impacts are angled, which can lead to rotational motion of the head.

2. This rotational motion can cause brain injury.

3. The low-friction shell is designed to help reduce rotational motion of the head in certain oblique impact situations.

Linear Impact - Oblique Impact

The brain is generally more sensitive to rotational motion than linear motion because its shear strength is similar to water or gel. When rotational motion causes different parts of the brain to move at different times, tissues can be stretched, leading to concussions or other brain injuries.

Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions and more severe brain injuries caused by oblique impacts to the head. The MIPS system consists of a low-friction shell fixed inside the helmet. The low-friction shell is designed to slide slightly within the helmet in the event of an accident, directing forces away from the head. This is said to help reduce the risk of brain injury.

Most traditional helmets are designed for linear impacts, but in most cases, impacts are angled. The low-friction shell can reduce the rotational forces of oblique impacts.

Brain-Modeled Safety System

Traditional helmets are primarily designed and tested for linear impacts, whereas the MIPS system's low-friction shell mimics the brain's own protective system against rotational motion. Cerebrospinal fluid is our natural defense system, allowing the brain to shift within the skull.
